IBM Instant Messaging

IBM business contacts can reach me during the workday by using IBM Instant Messaging and best of all, its open to ALL:

  • Register for a free IBM.COM account (if you don't already have one) from the link above (click Register Here), or try this direct link

  • Start the web-based IM client from the link above (click Start Now), or try this direct link
  • Login to the Web-based IM using your IBM.COM account (click Log On)

  • After the Java applet has started add a contact (click People->Add)

  • Add me as an 'External' contact (change from the default of 'Sametime') using my full IBM email address and enter whatever nickname you'd like (hey, be nice!) (click Add after filling in the required fields)

  • After the first time, you will not need to register again, or add me again (my status will show on the IM Buddy List). Click my nickname on the buddy list to send me an instant message.
  • This should work with any IBMer that you are trying to reach, have their email address, and that use Sametime (which is very prevalent in our company). Of course whether they respond, I can't help you with!
  • IBMers can of course use the native Sametime client available on the IBM network.

If I am online you will be able to reach me in real time. If I am not online, you can of course use that same email address to send a good, old-fashioned email. :)
