How Bitwise brought portfolio design onchain

Bitwise, one of the world's largest crypto asset managers, launched Automated Token Portfolios (ATPs): model stock portfolios that investors can replicate directly in their own wallets. Built on Coinbase's tokenized stocks and live on Base, an ATP gives investors a professionally designed strategy while they keep ownership of every underlying share.

Traditional assets, traditional products

Every fund makes the same trade: the investor hands over the stocks, and a professional manages them. That structure runs everything from ETFs to tokenized funds, and has worked for investors and institutions for decades. But the shares belong to the fund, not the investor, so they can't be put to any other use. Tokenized stocks give these holdings new capabilities, and the products institutions build around them can evolve to match.

Institutional strategy, individual ownership

With an ATP, the investor keeps the stocks and benefits from Bitwise's portfolio design. Each ATP is a model portfolio of Coinbase Tokenized Stocks that an investor can replicate in their own wallet, fully-backed by the underlying shares and carrying full shareholder rights, dividends included. Bitwise publishes the model while a third partner like Glider, which executes trades onchain, rebalances the portfolio on a set cadence. This way the holdings track their target while the investor retains custody of every share.

Three equal-weighted strategies were available within weeks of launch: Mag7X (the Magnificent Seven plus SpaceX), Robotics, and AI Leaders.

Every traditional fund asks investors to hand over their stocks in exchange for professional management. ATPs give them both: tokens you hold in your own wallet, and a strategy designed with institutional rigor. That combination changes what a strategy can be.

Tokenized assets do more

True ownership means the shares keep every advantage of an onchain asset, even inside a managed strategy. Because tokenized assets can be traded around the clock, a portfolio held onchain can respond to news or real-world events while traditional markets are closed. Eventually, those same shares can be borrowed, lent out, or used as collateral in DeFi protocols on Base.

Building a pooled fund is like carving with a chainsaw: it has to serve millions of investors and clear diversification rules. A single-wallet portfolio is a scalpel. It can be tuned to a precise theme and stood up in a fraction of the time a fund takes. That speed made it easy to launch the Robotics and AI Leaders strategies soon after the flagship Bitwise 10 Crypto Index ETF. ATPs are available today to eligible investors outside the US, many of whom have never had an easy way to hold these companies at all.

A taxi driver in Argentina can now access institutional-grade investment strategies that were once the domain of professional wealth managers. That is what tokenization enables: broader participation in global capital markets.

Why Base

Coinbase issues its tokenized stocks on Base, so every ATP is built on assets native to the chain. The DeFi protocols where those shares will eventually earn run on Base too, so a tokenized stock can move from a portfolio into a lending market and back without ever leaving the chain. For an asset manager, where to build tokenized products is a question of trust. Coinbase has been Bitwise's primary custodian for nearly a decade, so Base was a natural place to build.

What's ahead

More strategies are coming, with new weighting schemes and themes, and AI will speed up how they are designed. The trajectory echoes the ETF, which grew from a single S&P 500 fund into a $30 trillion market over thirty years. ATPs are at the very start of that curve.

Bitwise Risks and Important Information

Automated Token Portfolios ("ATPs") are published, rules-based model portfolios designed by Bitwise Investment Manager, LLC ("Bitwise"), a U.S. registered investment adviser. ATPs are not personalized investment advice. No advisory, fiduciary, or contractual relationship is created between Bitwise and any user who selects an ATP. Bitwise does not exercise discretion over, custody, or control any user's assets, and does not initiate or execute any transaction. All implementation and rebalancing is performed by Glider, an independent platform, through session credentials authorized by each user. Your use of any ATP is governed by your binding agreement with Glider.

Tokenized stocks are issued by a Coinbase entity licensed in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). Coinbase represents that its tokenized stocks are backed 1:1 by equity shares and carry shareholder rights, subject to applicable vesting conditions and the terms of the ADGM-approved prospectus. Bitwise does not issue tokenized stocks and has not independently verified Coinbase's representations regarding backing, shareholder rights, or redeemability.

ATPs involve a high degree of risk, including the risk of total loss. Past performance does not indicate future results. No person has made any determination that any ATP is suitable for any person. ATPs are available only to eligible persons outside the United States and are not available to U.S. Persons (as defined under Regulation S of the U.S. Securities Act of 1933).

Bitwise's registration as an investment adviser relates to its separately conducted advisory business and does not mean that the SEC has approved or endorsed any ATP or that any regulatory protections afforded to Bitwise's advisory clients extend to ATP users.
